Plan for Sustainability

School Sports Partnership

Maintain participation in the School Sports Partnership.

  • A PE and school Sport Specialist employed through the Partnership to positively impact on PE and School Sport at Knayton e.g. support and development of Gold Active mark, provide support for PE subject leader role, work on leadership opportunities, development of a ‘Change4life’ project and developing the new PE curriculum and assessment systems.
  • Running sport competitions and increasing pupils’ participation in Level 2 School Games: KS1 Fun Run, Cross-Country yr 3-6, Football yr 5/6, Swimming yr 5/6, Sportshall Athletics yr 5/6, Dodgeball KS2 (Change4Life event), Hi 5 netball yr 5/6, Quicksticks yr 3/4, Key Steps Gym, Tennis yr 3/4, Tchoukball KS2 (Change4Life), Tennis yr 5/6, Quadkids, Kwik Cricket yr 3/4 and 5/6, Mini Olympics KS2, Rounders KS2.
  • Bronze Kitemark achieved – highlighting Knayton’s commitment to PE and School Sport.  Analysis with School Sports Partnership manager on identifying next steps for the Gold Kite mark in 2016-17.
  • Raised profile of Intra house Level 1 competitions within school – in line with the focus on competition within the PE curriculum. Every class takes part in one Level 1 competition per half term.

Invest in the staff

  • Fund Professional Development opportunities for teachers in PE and School Sport. Specialist coaches supporting PE lessons in selected classes (based on staff confidence/expertise levels) enabling staff to use ideas/skills from the CPD sessions.
  • Hire qualified sports coaches to work with Knayton’s staff when teaching PE, as well as leading after school clubs. 
  • A range of extra-curricular clubs run by staff across the school year to promote Healthy living. New clubs included: Disney Dance, KS1 football and Change4Life.
  • CPD led by Mr Butterworth and Mr Clayton (in school PE specialists) focusing on ideas for warm ups, the development and progression of skills within a PE lesson and a wide range of engaging resources.
  • Ensure that challenge is evident in PE lessons as staff are moving the learning on quickly, providing challenge to the most able.

Inspire Children 

  • Pupil voice regularly carried out so children's voices are heard.
  • Develop opportunities for children to be inspired in the PE curriculum. Skip2BFit visitors to inspire the children to lead a healthy lifestyle. Skipping is now seen on the playground and is also part of some PE lessons through warm ups or used as movement breaks for specific children or classes.
  • New resources/ Visitors to school for workshops/ Trips.
  • Develop OAA (Outdoor and Adventure activities) into the timetable through Forest School activities (including orienteering) and residential trips.

Achieved ‘Bronze’ Sport Kite mark status.

PE leader attended Dance and Gymnastics course from the new National Curriculum. 

Continue and increase the number of extra- curricular clubs including the introduction of an outside body who hopefully will offer some new sports (for our school). Extended the number of sports clubs available to pupils (internal – cricket and rugby, external – athletics, Golden Mile). 

Participation rates in all clubs (both teacher led and external) offered is very high, if not at full attendance. Focused on activity levels of Year 3 and 4 pupils this year – offering a cricket club and athletics club (outside body).

Inter-house competitions (KS2) at the end of half terms, to raise intra school competition, these included Netball, Sportshall Athletics, Golf, ‘Dance off’ and cricket. 

Following survey in Nov 2014 (whole school), Premier Sport now runs from Knayton and offers an athletics club for YR2,3 and 4, aiming to increase individual activity levels.

All staff have worked alongside PE teacher, progress was evaluated and improved. 

Subject leader and head teacher to carried out a P.E. observation and learning walk to assess.

Attempted to organise friendly events at Knayton with other schools.

YR5/6 mixed football teams went to BoroughbridgePrimary School for a YR5/6 mixed football friendly. 

Organise a charity sport event for the whole school, parents and community.

Fitness book and record for all KS2 children up and running

Paying into Cluster Sport/Events

Knayton have entered most competitions.

  • All of KS2 entered the annual cross country event, 23 children made it to the Level 2 round and two YR3 pupils attended the North Yorkshire Finals representing Hambleton Area, finishing Boy = 16th & Girl = 37th. 
  • Girls and Boys football reaching Level 2 rounds, girls reaching the finals and finishing 2nd in Hambleton, boys finished 9th out of 68 schools.
  • YR5/6 athletics Level 1 = 1st reached Level 2 competition round, finishing 4th in Hambleton.

  • YR3/4 tennis Level 1 = 1stand reached Level 2 competition round, finishing XX in Hambleton.

Each pupil initially assessed by completing as many laps as possible. Laps are recorded each week during a lunch time play and then logged onto a database by Year 5 monitors.. Premier Sport return each term to reassess the children’s fitness levels. Monitors to print out graphs and charts to help track progress.

Participation, attitude and fitness of both pupils and staff has improved.

All children are receiving 2hours of PE per week.

All staff received 1hour of CPD per week, as a consequence staffs confidence to teach PE has grown. 

Children, across the whole school, are receiving a broad coverage of engaging and quality PE lessons.

All cluster events and competitions were entered, with the children prepared and ready. 

An assessment tracker with levels is in place and all staff aware of it through a staff meeting. 

A greater range of extracurricular clubs were available: External – Rugby, Gymnastics were added to the existing football club, internal – Rounders, Netball, Fitness and Cross Country, Dance and Girls Football.

One intra-school competition took place – Netball. 

PE and sport is now being recognised and celebrated at Knayton – display boards and a slot in celebration assembly. 

A ‘sports relief’ cycle was organised with the children bringing their bikes to school. 

Linking with the World Cup Knayton hosted a ‘World Cup Friendly’ with 80 children (All of KS2 took part) involved.

  • Athletics Level 1 = 1st, Level 2 = 1st, Level 3/North Yorkshire Final = Represented Hambleton Area 9th out of 382 schools
  • Tennis Level 1 = 1st, Level 2 = 4th out of 68 schools
  • Cricket Level 1 = 2nd, Level 2 = top 11 out of 68 schools
  • Hockey – Both YR5/6 and YR3/4 reached Level 2
  • Gymnastics YR1/2, 3/4, 5/6 Level 1, YR3/4  & 5/6 Level 2
  • Quadkids YR1/2, 3/4, 5/6 Level 1, YR1/2 Level 2 = top 12 out of 68 schools
  • KS1 Fun Run – YR2 Boy won the race, all KS1 took part
  • Cross Country all KS2 children took part, YR5/6 Level 1 = 1st Girls and Boys, YR3/4 Level 1 = 2ndGirls and Boys, 27 children made it through to Level 2, 1 Girl in YR5 = North Yorkshire Final, finishing 18th out of 80 children
