  • Working with the Headteacher to make sure that teaching at school is effective and good quality and the children are making the best possible progress.
  • Taking general responsibility for the school and its budget.
  • Challenging and supporting the senior management team and taking opportunities to show interest in and appreciation of staff and pupils.
  • Promoting the interests of the school and its pupils in the wider community.

Knayton Governing Body Committee Structure

At Knayton, the Governing Body is made up of three committees: Teaching and Learning; Resources and Staff Performance Management. The Full Governing Body and the committees each meet termly.

Teaching and Learning committee

The teaching and learning committee are responsible for all aspects of teaching, learning and pupil development, behaviour, safety and wellbeing. They are responsible for scrutinising internal and publicised progress and attainment data, teaching staff reports as well as conducting learning walks and monitoring visits. They provide challenge and support to the Headteacher and Assistant Headteacher to ensure that high standards are maintained and the school is consistently improving in line with the School Development Plan. Governors on the teaching and learning committee are regularly in school, experiencing all aspects of school provision first hand. Jane Makin is Chair of the Teaching and Learning Committee and has an over-arching responsibility for Safeguarding. In addition, committee mambers are each responsible for curriculum or development priority areas.

Resource Committee

The Resource committee is responsible for the school finances and premises, including staffing and Health and Safety. They provide challenge and support to the Headteacher and School Business Manager, scrutinising budgets, financial forecasts, spending and staffing arrangements. Joe Bainbridge is Chair of the Resources committee and is also Pupil Premium Champion.

Staff Performance Management Committee

The staff performance managment committee is responsible for conducting the Headteacher's performance management, including aspirational target-setting and regular performance management reviews. They oversee anonymised performance management targets, evidence and reviews and ensure that performance management targets are closely linked to the school development plan and CPD links to this. The staff performance management committee also support and challenge the Headteacher with all aspects of staffing. Richard Morrice is Chair of this committee as well as of the Full governing Body.
